On 18 June 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo organised the “Shrine Clean-up and Sakura Tree Planting Community Service Activities at the Zojoji Temple” in honour of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 28th July 2024. Approximately 60 participants, including H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, the officials of the Royal Thai Embassy and Team Thailand in Tokyo, along with their spouses, took part in cleaning up the areas surrounding the main shrine and planted a Sakura tree close to the temple gate. On this occasion, H.E. the Ambassador also presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the plaque to dedicate the new tree, which not only symbolised the Thai-Japanese friendship but also enhanced shade and scenic recreation spaces.

The activities captured the interest of the Japanese and foreign tourists who expressed their appreciation for the work that was carried out to beautify the temple grounds and maintain the charming architecture of the old temple in central Tokyo, which plays a significant role in Japanese Buddhism. Moreover, the activities have become a model for improving the living condition of communities and for its cultivation of a sense of environmental preservation.
