Ambassador of Thailand to Norway attended the ASEAN Business Reception 2023

On 23 August 2023, H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, attended the ASEAN Business Reception 2023, organized by Singapore Norway Chamber of Commerce at Law firm Wikborg Rein’s Office, Dronning Mauds gt 11. Ambassador Vimolbajra was greeted by Mr. Erik Borgen, Chairman of Singapore Norway Chamber of Commerce and organizers of the event.

ASEAN Business Reception is held annually in August when the Ambassadors of Norway to the ASEAN countries are in Oslo for the annual meeting of Norwegian Ambassadors from around the world. The reception provides an opportunity for the meeting between the Norwegian Ambassadors to the ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Ambassadors to Norway, as well as networking with representatives from the Norwegian corporate sector with an interest in the ASEAN region. The Guest of Honour for the ASEAN Business Reception 2023 was H.E. Mr. Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, the newly appointed State Secretary of the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who delivered his opening remarks for the event.

In his opening remarks, the State Secretary emphasized the importance of ASEAN countries to Norway for many common priorities as well as mutual interests. In terms of trade and economic relations, Norway has free trade agreements (FTAs) and in the process of negotiating FTAs with the ASEAN countries, which are supplemented by EFTA agreements with the ASEAN countries. Norway is also encouraged by the progress being made towards the conclusion of a joint declaration on cooperation (JDC) between EFTA and ASEAN. Issues of common interests are green transition, climate change, ocean sustainability, blue economy, law of the sea, energy transition partnership (with Indonesia and Vietnam), investment in renewable energy and sustainable ocean management. Other important priorities for Norway include peace processes and security agendas as discussed during H.E. Ms. Anniken Huitfeldt, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway’s recent visit to the ASEAN region to attend the meetings with her ASEAN counterparts on the sidelines of the 56th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting/Post-Ministerial Conference (AMM/PMC) in July 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

On this occasion, Ambassador Vimolbajra met and exchanged views with representatives from the Norwegian government and business sectors with an interest in the ASEAN region, and the ASEAN Ambassadors to Norway. Ambassador Vimolbajra also exchanged views with H.E. Ms. Astrid Helle, Ambassador of Norway to Thailand. Ambassador Astrid Helle has introduced Ambassador Vimolbajra to H.E. Mr. Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, who has recently assumed his position.
