On 11-12 October 2023, H.E. Mr. Pisanu Sobhon, Ambassador of Thailand to Peru and delegation from the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima, attended the 8^th Expert Group Meeting on Alternative Development at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, in Lima. The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Mae Fah Luang Foundation, Office of the Narcotics Control Board of Thailand, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, National Commission for Development and Life Without Drugs (DEVIDA) of Peru and German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), together with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Peru. Furthermore, on 13 October, 2023, a representative from the Royal Thai Embassy participated in the Meeting of the Group of Experts on Comprehensive and Sustainable Alternative Development, under the framework of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS), as an observer.

The meeting was an opportunity for Thailand to share its leading role in implementing alternative development activities to solve drug-related issues and exchange knowledge and best practices regarding drug-related challenges and promoting alternative development, as well as to be informed about promoting alternative development approaches in the Latin America and Caribbean region.
