The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Jeddah welcomed Rector of Fatoni University

On 9 January 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Lutfi Japakiya, Rector of Fatoni University met with officials of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Jeddah at the Consul-General’s residence on the occasion of the Rector's visit to Saudi Arabia to participate in a laureate selection committee of the 45th King Faisal Prize, Service to Islam category.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Lutfi, being regarded by Saudi academic circle as an esteemed Thai-Muslim scholar, was invited by the Saudi government to participate in a selection process of the mentioned Prize, along with representatives from several prestigious organizations such as Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Muslim World League.

Shaikh Nasser bin Abdullah Al Zaabi from the United Arab Emirates who has a conspicuous role in advocating for philanthropic, humanitarian and educational work along with Prof. Choi Young Kil-Hamed from South Korea who played a prominent role in translation are selected as the Prize laureates in Service to Islam category.

The Prize was launched in 1977 in 3 categories namely Service to Islam, Islamic Studies and Arabic Language and Literature. Two additional award categories, Medicine and Science, have been added since 1981. The recent award winners in category of Medicine and Science include scientists from the USA and the UK honoring their significant roles in areas of technology and innovation particularly SARS-CoV2 vaccine.

Thus far, there are a total of 282 awardees from 44 countries worldwide.
