Thai Fabric made from Banana Fiber was showcased during the Earthna Summit 2023 in Doha

Bua Luang banana fiber fabric from Pathum Thani province, Thailand, participated in the cultural exhibition in Earthna Village, a side-event of the Earthna Summit 2023 during 8 - 9 March 2023, organized by the Qatar Foundation in Doha, the State of Qatar. The Royal Thai Embassy, Doha, invited Ms. Bunnapa Bualuang, Head of Sangtawan Community Enterprise, to showcase products made from banana fiber fabric and demonstrate the weaving of the fabric which presented the uniqueness of Bua Luang banana fiber fabric that combines the innovation of transforming banana tree fiber into threads with the Thai method of weaving. In this occasion, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, and Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation also visited this exhibition.

Bua Luang banana fiber fabric makes full use of an agricultural byproduct whilst preserving Thai wisdom. The presentation of this Thai fabric is in line with the overall purpose of the Earthna Summit 2023 as a conference on environmental preservation and sustainability. The summit brought together global, regional and local policymakers, business people and academics to exchange knowledge and opinions on climate change management and transformation to promote sustainability.

Through participation in this activity, Thailand was able to showcase to an international audience, its success in making full use of its resources to generate income for the local community. BuaLuang banana fiber fabric is also a clear example of Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economic Model.
