On 14 May 2024, Ms. Pottanee Homjitt, Chargé d'affaires a.i., along with Ms. Papada Pakdethanakul, Second Secretary, and staff from the Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar, took part in the Mobile Medical Humanitarian Missions and Public Health Service Program in Senegal at the Richard Toll Regional Hospital, northern Senegal.

This project is one of the key development cooperation projects between Thailand and Senegal in public health, and has continued for more than 20 years (since 2005). The main objectives are to help Senegalese in remote areas gain access to health care and promote Thailand’s constructive role in public health and humanitarian assistance. The project also supports the Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring that people from all sectors receive health care service from the public sector. UHC is one of the main policies that Thailand gives priority to and pushes forward for tangible outcomes, as well as expressing full support in the international platform.

Professor Ciré NDIAYE, Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctor, from Fann National University Hospital Center (Centre hospitalier national universitaire de Fann: CHNUF) in Dakar, together with the medical team from Richard Toll regional Hospital, expressed their sincere gratitude to the Thai government, through the Embassy, for having played the key role in expanding access to healthcare for Senegalese in remote areas. The patients with ENT diseases are now able to receive the operation in Richard Toll, instead of traveling more than 7 hours to Dakar (390 km from Richard Toll) or more than 2 hours Saint-Louis (100 km from Richard Toll) to receive treatment.

On this occasion, Chargé d'affaires a.i. congratulated on the success of the project as well as reaffirmed the Embassy’s intention to help further provide access to public health service for Senegalese in a broader area and to continue to deepen and broaden the cooperation with Fann Hospital in order to further strengthen the cordial relationship between Thailand and Senegal. Moreover, Chargé d'affaires a.i. informed the medical team of the ENT medical humanitarian missions in 2024 with the support from the Embassy in other four cities, including Fatick, Thiès, Ziguinchor, and Rufisque.
