Spécialités Thaïlandaises: Amazing Thai Taste

On 18 March 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar and Les confitures de mémé, a SME business in Dakar, co-organized an event under the theme, “Spécialités Thaïlandaises: Amazing Thai Taste” at the Olympique Club, Dakar. More than 150 people, including diplomatic corps., Senegalese nationals, Africans and foreigners in Dakar participated in the event.


The Embassy organized a cooking demonstration, showing how to cook Tom Yum Goong (Hot and Spicy Thai soup with shrimps) and Som Tum (Thai Papaya Salad), which are very popular among the West African because of the spice and flavor. At the event, participants enjoyed very much in tasting other famous Thai dishes, including Pad Thai Goong (Thai Stir-fried noodles with shrimps), Chicken Red Curry with bamboo shoots, and Thai Hommali Rice, as well as Banana in coconut milk and Cassava cake with shredded coconut for desserts. Also, the participants had fun in taking part in the make of Kanom Krok (coconut rice pancake) for a more inclusive experience.


Furthermore, representatives from the Muay Thai Association in Senegal performed Thai Boxing demonstration, representing the culture and identity of Thailand and publicize Thai Boxing to a larger audience. The Embassy also set up a booth to provide further information on Thai Boxing for those who are interested in and another booth to promote Thai tourism and introduce famous tourist attractions to the participants.


This event was successfully organized to promote Thai culture by introducing Thai culinary delights and Thai boxing to the public to extend Thailand’s publicity among the peoples in the West African Region, as well as encouraging Thai tourism to boost Thailand’s economy.
