The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of Thailand – US cooperation on public health amidst the spread of COVID-19 and expressed readiness to continue working closely with the US Ambassador to Thailand to deepen even closer multi-faceted cooperation.

On 23 December 2020, Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, received H.E. Michael G. DeSombre, Ambassador of the United States of America to Thailand, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and discussed the current COVID-19 situation in Thailand and the US and preventive measures implemented by both Governments, as well as the long-standing public health cooperation between the two countries, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Permanent Secretary commended Ambassador DeSombre’s proactive role in enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in promoting Thailand-US economic, trade, and investment ties, as well as the cooperation on anti-human trafficking. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to working closely to deepen the multi-faceted bilateral cooperation.

Both sides also exchanged views on the regional issues of mutual interest, including development cooperation in the sub-region.
