On 25 September 2024, Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Michiel Sweers, Vice-Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, during his visit to Thailand during 24 - 25 September 2024. H.E. Mr. Remco Johannes van Wijngaarden, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Thailand, Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, and Ms. Pratana Disyatat, Director of Western Europe Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended.

Both sides discussed bilateral issues to strengthen the Netherlands’ investment in Thailand, as the Netherlands is currently Thailand’s largest investor among the EU countries. Both sides also agreed to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of water management, advanced technology, agricultural and food innovation, as well as clean energy transition.

The Netherlands stands ready to support Thailand’s accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Thailand-EU FTA negotiations.

Both sides welcomed the various activities to celebrate the 420th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. The Netherlands expressed appreciation towards the special panel discussion under the theme “Water Diplomacy: 420 years and Solutions to Flood Prevention” hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 24 September 2024, which was inaugurated by the Vice-Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, together with the Director-General of the Department of European Affairs.
