On 20 February 2025, His Excellency Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), will pay an Official Visit to Thailand at the invitation of Her Excellency Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand.

This will be the first Official Visit to Thailand of Prime Minister Sonexay, providing an opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. This visit also marks the start of the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR.

During his visit, Prime Minister Sonexay and spouse will have an audience with Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand.

He will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Paetongtarn at the Government House, followed by an official luncheon. Their discussion will cover a broad range of cooperation, including economic, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges. A particular focus will be on addressing common challenges, including narcotics, online scams, human trafficking, PM 2.5 pollution and shared water resource management.

Prime Minister Sonexay is also scheduled to open the Thai-Lao Business Forum in Bangkok.
