On 13 December 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, chaired a dinner meeting with seven New Zealand businesses. The president of the New Zealand - Thailand Business Association (NZTBA), which supports Thai-New Zealand entrepreneurs in their business operations and helped organise the latest Thai-New Zealand business matching activity on 8 November 2024 in Bangkok, also presented at the dinner.
This seven businesses have investments or are interested in investing or expanding their businesses in Thailand in various sectors such as livestock and dairy products, food, pharmaceuticals and medicine, investment, and clean energy, which all are Thailand’s targeted industries. Fonterra, for exemple, is New Zealand's largest dairy co-operative and one of the world's largest exporters of dairy products. Thailand is the largest importer of its materials among Southeast Asia countries, making the country a processing and repackaging base, and the largest exporter of dairy products in the region.
On this occasion, the Foreign Minister reiterated Thailand’s proactive economic measures and encouraged the involvement of business sector of both countries throughout the supply chain. He also welcomed the Chairman of the Northland Regional Council’s interest in exporting King fish and Grouper fish in a quantity of a ton per day to Thailand, aiming for Thailand to add value to and distribute his products to other countries in the region.
Furthermore, the Foreign Minister met with the Royal Thai Embassy team in Wellington. He reiterated the government's policy of promoting proactive economic diplomacy and closer collaboration to bring about concrete outcomes that benefit the people. He requested the Royal Thai Embassy to closely coordinate with New Zealand agencies to drive forward implementation under the Roadmap.
Lastly, the Foreign Minister also met with the Thai community in Auckland and Wellington, where he reflected on his time as Ambassador of Thailand to New Zealand and discussed the living conditions and development of the Thai community. He also visited the construction of the chapel at Wat Yanprathip in Auckland.
