On April 2, 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, delivered opening remarks at the webinar titled “Investment Opportunities in Thailand: Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Industries,” hosted by Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) New York Office. It was well received and attended by a large number of participants from related sectors from Thailand and the North America.
Consul General Somjai highlighted the collaborative efforts of “Team Thailand” in New York in strengthening the relationship between Thailand and the United States across all sectors. She also reaffirmed Thailand's unwavering readiness as a hub for the global supply chain despite the ever-changing geopolitical landscape or the unexpected natural catastrophe, including the recent earthquakes in Myanmar which were felt in Thailand. The situation in Thailand has now quickly and fully returned to normal. Moreover, Thailand is moving fast to transition into the digital economy by elevating research and innovation capacity, developing digital infrastructure, and upskilling domestic workforce. To facilitate high-skilled professionals from overseas, the Long-Term Resident Visa (LTR) is also implemented to support the advanced industries.
In this webinar, Mr. Nantaphol Sudbanthad, Director of the BOI New York, provided an overview of investment opportunities for semiconductor and advanced electronics in Thailand, along with the incentives policy. Mr. Thitidej Tularak, Minister-Counsellor (Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation), presented the Human Resource Development Support Program for the preparation of upskilled workforce. The private sector, represented by Dr. Prong Kongsubto, Chief of Staff from Lumentum International (Thailand), also shared his experience on investing in Thailand.
