On 7 December 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Nay Pyi Taw, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, to discuss Thailand–Myanmar bilateral relations. Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Armed Forces, including the Chief of Joint Staff, Royal Thai Armed Forces, and the Army Chief of Staff, joined the delegation.

The Foreign Minister paid courtesy calls on (1) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Acting President of Myanmar, and (2) H.E. U Nyo Saw, Prime Minister of Myanmar, and held bilateral discussions with (3) H.E. U Than Swe, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Both sides reaffirmed the close friendship between the two neighbouring countries and agreed to foster cooperation in addressing shared challenges. They expressed their mutual desire to see peace and development in Thailand - Myanmar border areas. They concurred that security operations near the border should exercise utmost caution in order to avoid impacts on the people.

Both sides will enhance security cooperation, especially between the armed forces. In particular, both sides will step up cooperation to combat narcotic drugs and online scams. The Thai side extended an invitation for a senior representative from Myanmar to attend the International Conference on the Global Partnership Against Online Scams to be hosted by Thailand on 17–18 December 2025.

The two sides also discussed increasing economic cooperation, supporting the Thai private sector in Myanmar, enhancing connectivity, and the reopening of the Second Friendship Bridge (Mae Sot–Myawaddy) to restore normal trade. Both countries will expedite the establishment of a joint working group on water quality, and enhance cooperation on transboundary haze.

The Foreign Minister expressed his hope that the upcoming election will be an important political transition and a part of the broader peace process, which Thailand will continue to support.

In addition, the Foreign Minister visited the Basic Education Branch High School (Thapyay Kone) in Pobbathiri Township, which benefited from Thailand’s assistance for Myanmar’s post-earthquake recovery through the AHA Centre.
