On 18 February 2025, Ms. Prangtip Kanchanahattakij, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Economics Affairs, chaired a preparatory meeting to discuss Thailand's role as the Co-Chair of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) for the year 2025. The meeting was attended by representatives from over 20 relevant governmental agencies.

The meeting aimed to outline priorities and set the agenda for Thailand co-chairmanship, focusing on advancing cooperation for sustainable development and addressing pressing issues in the Mekong subregion, particularly cooperation on water resources management, combating transboundary crimes, and tackling air pollution. Participants also exchanged updates on ongoing cooperation under the MLC framework, including progress from the 9th MLC Foreign Ministers' Meeting, hosted by Thailand in August 2024 in Chiang Mai province.

The MLC was an initiative led by Thailand. It was established in 2016 to promote cooperation among Mekong subregional members (Thailand, Cambodia, Lao DPR, Vietnam) and China, with an emphasis on connectivity and development across various sectors. Currently, Thailand serves as the Co-Chair of the MLC alongside China for the 2024-2025 term.
