On 22 June 2026, Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, delivered a keynote address at a special youth event co-organized by the Ministry and the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in Thailand to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Thailand’s membership in the United Nations at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The event was held under the theme “80 Years of Thailand and the UN: Country Level Engagement on Pact for the Future Implementation in Thailand.” Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, Ms. Lin Yang, Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCAP, and Mr. Themba Kalua, Director of the Pact for the Future Implementation, also delivered remarks.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary commended the strong cooperation between Thailand and the United Nations over the past eight decades and Thailand’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism with the United Nations at its core. He also paid homage to Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita, who played a crucial role in advancing the Bangkok Rules for the treatment of female prisoners towards universal adoption by the 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He emphasized that implementing the Pact for the Future at the national level requires the crucial role of youth in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future to address future challenges.
The event was attended by over 400 youth and university students, and featured activities such as a youth forum to exchange perspectives on issues of interest to young people and their participation in global decision-making, as well as a panel discussions on careers at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the United Nations.
