Launch of the official logo for the 140th anniversary of Thailand-Japan Diplomatic Relations

On 9 October 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan in Bangkok co-organized a ceremony to launch the official logo for the 140th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand-Japan Diplomatic Relations, to be celebrated in 2027. The ceremony took place at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was presided over by H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Otaka Masato, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand. More than 100 members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of various organizations attended the event.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the special nature of Thailand-Japan relations and expressed his hope that the 140th anniversary celebrations will provide an opportunity to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Ambassador Otaka highlighted the close ties between Thailand and Japan at all levels and outlined the various activities to be held throughout 2027.

The logo competition attracted almost 800 submissions, with more than 30,000 people from Thailand and Japan participating in the public vote. The winning design combines the cultural identities of both countries to convey the theme of “Enduring Friendship.”

The ceremony also featured a Muay Thai Wai Kru ritual performed by Weerasakreck Muaythai Gym and a Sumo Shiko ritual performed by professional Sumo wrestlers from the Sumo Association of Japan, symbolising good fortune for the commemorative activities throughout 2027.
