On 2 November 2026, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended and delivered opening remarks at the Reception hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), and campaigned for Thailand’s candidacy for election to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council under Part III for the 2026-2028 term.

The Vice Minister highlighted Thailand’s efforts to become a leading aviation hub in Asia by building on the strong foundations and long-lasting relationship with ICAO, which dates back to Thailand’s accession to the ICAO in 1947, to hosting the ICAO Asia and Pacific Office in Bangkok in 1955, and to Thailand’s continuous endeavors in connecting nations and supporting the growth of international aviation in a safe, secure and sustainable manner.

The Reception aimed to present Thailand’s readiness and commitment to contribute actively to the ICAO and gather support for Thailand’s candidacy for the ICAO Council, for which elections will be held at the 43rd Extraordinary Session of the ICAO Assembly during 19-20 November 2026 at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal, Canada.
