Thailand participated in the Group of 77 and China Summit on “Current Development Challenges: The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation” in Havana, Cuba

On 15-16 September 2023, H.E. Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, representing the Prime Minister of Thailand, attended the Group of 77 and China Summit on “Current Development Challenges: The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation”, held in Havana, Cuba.

At the Summit, Thailand proposed that the Group focuses on expanding cooperation to promote R&D investment and formulates common stance on the governance of emerging technologies in order to remain proactive in global policy conversations.

The Group of 77 and China, comprising 134 members, was founded in 1964 to promote and advance its collective interests at the United Nations, especially in economic and development issues. Thailand, a founding member, was Chair of G77 in 2016. The special Summit in Havana was hosted by Cuba, as Chair of the Group for 2023.
