On 18 - 20 December 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, paid a working visit to Japan to discuss Thailand - Japan bilateral relations in various dimensions and exchange views on regional developments, including the roles of Thailand and Japan in jointly promoting peace and stability at the regional level.

On 18 December 2025, the Foreign Minister met with H.E. Mr. Motegi Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. Both sides discussed ways to further advance bilateral relations and agreed to enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in a more dynamic manner by promoting the transition of traditional industries toward sustainability and advancing cooperation in new, innovation-focused sectors. They also exchanged views on key regional developments, in particular the Thailand - Cambodia border situation, Myanmar, the Korean peninsula, and Japan - ASEAN relations.

On 19 December 2025, the Foreign Minister met with H.E. Mr. Koizumi Shinjiro, Minister of Defense of Japan, reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to promoting regional peace based on the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) principle, which aligns with the ASEAN outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). Both sides also underscored their commitment to enhancing cooperation on the defense industry and security technologies, as well as on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR).

The Foreign Minister held discussions with Mr. Aizawa Ichiro, Chairman of the Japan - Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Mr. Shiozaki Akihisa, Secretary-General of the Group, together with members of the Japanese National Diet, with a view to strengthening relations and promoting cooperation and to provide information on regional developments. The Foreign Minister also exchanged views with scholars from Japanese research institutes and think tanks on security issues and regional developments. He held discussions with senior executives of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) to build upon Thailand’s strengths through investment in strategic industries and industries of the future.
