On 10 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, together with H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Ms. Chayika Wongnapachant, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, led an MFA delegation to Buriram Province to follow up on progress in upgrading the Chong Sai Taku Border Checkpoint to an international point of entry, and to visit the family of a Thai worker who lost his life in Israel.
The Foreign Minister received a briefing on the overall border trade situation and progress in upgrading the Chong Sai Taku Border Checkpoint to an international point of entry, aimed at boosting cross-border trade, investment, and tourism. The Foreign Minister underscored the importance of strengthening customs, immigration, and quarantine procedures in anticipation of increased cross-border traffic. He also made an on-site visit to the Chong Sai Taku Border Checkpoint, where he was welcomed and briefed by Mr. Kriangsak Somchit, Deputy Governor of Buriram Province, and Colonel Boonserm Boonbamrung, Deputy Commander of the Suranaree Task Force.
Subsequently, the Foreign Minister and his delegation visited Mrs. Prueksa Meeram, wife of Mr. Nisan Meeram, a Thai worker who lost his life in Israel on 11 October 2024. The purpose of the visit was to offer moral support, and inform the family of the progress made regarding the rights and benefits they are entitled to. These include financial compensation secured through negotiations and ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of Israel.
