On 8 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Sean Kotaro O’Neill, Ambassador of the United States to Thailand, on the occasion of the latter’s assumption of duty.  
 
Both sides discussed the strategic importance of enhancing the longstanding Thailand - U.S. alliance in the context of the changing global landscape. They also agreed on the importance of deepening engagement and cooperation between the two countries, particularly by promoting high-level engagements and elevating bilateral cooperation in areas of shared strategic interests, including defense and security, trade, and law enforcement, especially in combating online scams and transnational crime.  
 
Both sides discussed the Thailand - Cambodia border situation. The U.S. side welcomed the ceasefire, while the Thai side reiterated Thailand’s commitment to peace and emphasized the importance of adhering to the ceasefire and other relevant agreements, including refraining from provocative actions to achieve lasting peace. They also exchanged views on the regional situation, including developments in Myanmar.
