On 14 May 2024, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. David Daly, Ambassador of the European Union to Thailand. They agreed that the Thai-EU relations have gone from strength to strength over the past 2-3 years with remarkable achievements such as the signing of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and the resumption of the Thai-EU FTA negotiation, in which the third round will take place in Brussels next month.

Both sides also exchanged views on Thailand’s proposal for visa-free access to Schengen areas for the holders of Thai ordinary passports and the outcomes of the meetings between Ms. Charlina Vitcheva, Director-General of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) and high-level representatives of the Thai Government on the amendment of Fisheries Ordinance, as well as Thailand’s efforts to preserve marine resources, to protect livelihood of Thai fishermen and to combat IUU fishing in compliance with the international laws.

In addition, both sides also exchanged opinions on regional issues and upcoming meetings that are due to take place in early June, which are the 17th Thai-EU Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) and the Thai-EC Joint Working Group on Combating IUU Fishing.
