Thai Ambassador to Cuba with residence in Mexico City met with the Director-General of the Department of Asia and Oceania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba

On 9 December 2021, H.E. Mr. Paisan Rupanichakij, Ambassador of Thailand to Cuba, with residence in Mexico City, attended a working lunch hosted by Mr. Alberto J. Blanco Silva, Director-General of the Department of Asia and Oceania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

Both sides discussed and exchanged views on the bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Cuba in areas such as cooperation on public health and COVID-19 vaccines, technical cooperation in the areas of interest to Cuba such as sustainable development, agriculture and medical tourism, as well as a plan to jointly organize activities to celebrate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Cuba in 2023.

Both sides also exchanged information and views on economic and investment policies, as well as regional and international issues, such as the situation in Myanmar, the impact of the economic sanction imposed by the US, and Thailand’s support for UNGA Resolution on Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.

The Cuban side expressed a strong determination to strengthen ties with Thailand and ASEAN, and expessed hope that Thailand would consider opening an Embassy in Havana in the future.
