Senior Pakistani Officials from the National Defence University of Pakistan paid a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thailand

On 8 May 2024, Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, received a delegation comprising senior and high-ranking officials from Pakistan’s National Defence University (NDU), who are visiting various agencies in Thailand on a studying visit between 5 - 10 May 2024, i.e. National Defence Studies institutes (NDSI), Rights and Liberties Protection Department (RLPD), Institute of Asian Studies (Chulalongkorn University) and Sattahip Naval Base.

During the briefing at the Ministry, the Deputy Permanent Secretary gave a comprehensive briefing on Thailand’s Foreign Policy in the context of the Asia-Pacific which faces key challenges, especially transnational issues such as climate change and global migration in various hotspots, as well as emphasised the current government’s vision on Ignite Thailand, Thailand’s strategic approach, and the “5S” Foreign Affairs Masterplan, which focuses on five key framework pillars, namely Security, Sustainability, Standard, Status, and Synergy.

Both sides exchanged views on potential areas for advancing bilateral relations between Thailand and Pakistan and discussed the possible economic opportunities that both countries can leverage through mutual cooperation, especially on the resumption of the Pakistan-Thailand Free Trade Agreement negotations, as well as tourism and archaeology cooperation. Other areas included scientific collaboration, education, and people-to-people linkages.

This year, Thailand and Pakistan enter the 73rd anniversary of diplomatic relations. Both countries have a longstanding, cordial and mutually beneficial relationship across various dimensions of shared interest.
