On 20 July 2024, H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs led a business delegation to meet with Mr. Jasur Shadiev, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Samarkand, the Republic of Uzbekistan. Both sides expressed keen interest in working together to increase trade and economic engagements between the private sectors of both countries. The Thai delegation also received a briefing on the economic, policies, direction, and potential of Samarkand in tourism, manufacturing, and agribusiness.

On the same day, the Thai entrepreneurs representing the sectors in modern trade, logistics and agribusiness attended a business matching session with various interested Uzbek companies. The session served as a gateway for the private sectors of both countries to establish connections and to seek reliable business partners. In addition, the Thai delegation made on-site visits at prominent companies in Samarkand, specializing in textile production, food processing, and fisheries.

Samarkand is one of the renowned cities in the UNESCO World Heritage Lists and is the center of innovation and Islamic art and culture. Samarkand was one of the major cities along the Ancient Silk Road linking Europe with China. The present day Samarkand is the second largest city in Uzbekistan and serves as a center for tourism, manufacturing, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) venues.
