On 20 February 2026, Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), to discuss cooperation between Thailand and ESCAP.
 
The Executive Secretary commended Thailand for the active role as host country of ESCAP, as well as in fostering regional cooperation in Asia and the Pacific. She also provided information on key upcoming ESCAP meetings, in particular the 13th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development to be held on 24 - 27 February 2026 at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, and the 82nd Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific to be held on 20-24 April 2026 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Deputy Permanent Secretary reaffirmed Thailand’s cooperation with ESCAP to promote sustainable development that can benefit member states by building on Thailand’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. He also conveyed Thailand’s readiness to support ESCAP’s activities on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Commission in 2027.
 
ESCAP is the largest of the five United Nations regional commissions. It was established in 1947 in Shanghai, China, and relocated to Thailand in 1949. ESCAP comprises 53 member states in the Asia-Pacific region with the objective to foster cooperation, exchange views, and provide recommendations on the work of ESCAP in promoting social and economic development in the Asia-Pacific region.
