On 17 January 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, took part in a multilateral meeting on National Action to Advance Circularity of Plastics on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2024, in the Congress Center, Davos, alongside an invited group of Ministers and high-level representatives from private sector and civil society.

The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to moving towards circularity of plastics and zero waste, while engaging actively in the negotiations of Global Plastics Treaty. Thailand places importance on promoting technology transfer, capacity building and access to financial recourses which will be crucial for developing countries in this endeavour.

The meeting exchanged views and best practices for creating an enabling environment that supports circularity to reduce waste and address plastic pollution. The Deputy Prime Minister shared a series of Thailand’s actions in this regard, including legislation as guidance towards more sustainable use of resources, implementation of the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, which promotes utilisation of technology and innovation to encourage sustainable growth and long-term competitiveness, as well as National Roadmap on Plastic Waste Management to reduce plastics at all stages of the life cycle from production to disposal.
