On 2 May 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the margins of the 2025 OECD Southeast Asia Regional Forum in Bangkok.

Foreign Minister Maris thanked his Lao counterpart for his participation in the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Forum, which acts as a bridge between regional economic cooperation frameworks and the OECD. They exchanged views on how to enhance economic resilience in the region. Both Foreign Ministers also discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, including high-level engagements to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Thai - Lao diplomatic relations, progress in connectivity and logistics projects, as well as efforts to deepen people-to-people ties.

In addition, Foreign Minister Maris looks forward to welcoming Foreign Minister Thongsavanh again during his upcoming official visit to Thailand and the Final Casting Ceremony of the 5th Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge (Bueng Kan - Bolikhamxay) scheduled for early June 2025.
