Director-General of Department of International Organizations discusses with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights, and U.S. Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security

On 23 September 2024, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, discussed with Ms. Uzra Zeya, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights, during the High-level week of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79).  Both sides exchanged views on human rights issues of interest in Thailand and the region. The U.S. side commended Thailand on the passing of the Equal Marriage Law by Parliament and joining the Equal Rights Coalition, as well as in providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar. Director-General Jayanama also underlined commitment of the Royal Thai Government to further advance the promotion and protection of human rights and democracy in the country, while maintaining constructive role in the region.

On the same day, the Director-General of the Department of International Organizations also had a meeting with Ms. Bonnie Jenkins, U.S. Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security. Both sides exchanged views on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, the process towards Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and cooperation between Thailand and the U.S. in co-hosting the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) Southeast Asia Workshops in Bangkok, as well as peaceful use of nuclear energy, to help accelerate the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Director-General Jayanama also informed that Ramathibodhi Hospital was selected by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to serve as a Collaborating Centre -Anchor Centre under the Rays of Hope Anchor Centre (RoH) in Southeast Asia, which aims to assist Member States in establishing and expanding their capacities in radiotherapy and multimodality medical imaging.
