On 19 January 2024, H.E. Mr. Jakkapong Sangmanee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Benin, during the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Uganda.

Both sides discussed development cooperation, especially rice farming, fishery, and sustainable development. Thailand stood ready to share knowledge and experience with Benin through projects under Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and to also increase exchange of study visits between public and private sectors of both sides to enhance bilateral technical and economic cooperation.

On this occasion, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs proposed his counterpart on the reciprocal support between Thailand’s candidature for the Human Rights Council (HRC) membership for the term 2025-2027 and Benin’s candidature in the same category and same term. Both sides also discussed the possibility of negotiating an agreement on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
