On 21 - 25 February 2024, H.E. Mr. Jakkapong Sangmanee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, led a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Thai business sectors on a visit to Kazakhstan to explore economic potentials and business opportunities in Astana and Almaty, the latter being the largest city and economic center of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs paid a courtesy call on Mr. Murat Nurtleu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan to present an invitation letter from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand inviting the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, to visit Thailand as guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the UNESCAP meeting in April 2024.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Thai delegation attended a plenary meeting with Ms. Nazira Nurbayeva, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, in charge of international investment, along with the Kazakh public and private sectors. Both sides discussed ways to promote trade and investment between Thailand and Kazakhstan as well as to follow up on the progress of various agreements and exchange views on prominent economic sectors of mutual interest.  After the meeting, both Deputy Ministers witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Center for Trade Policy Development Joint-Stock Company (QazTrade).

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with Mr. Aidarbek Saparov, Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan and Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Advisor to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Yerkinbayev Malikovich, Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan.  The Thai delegation paid visits to and met with executives from various governmental agencies as well as private companies with potential for future cooperation, for example, Medical Center Hospital, Qazyna Holding Company, Kazakh National Medical University and the Industrial Zone in Almaty. The delegation also made a study visit to Shymbulak Mountain Resort which is a natural tourist attraction and the largest winter sports venue in Central Asia.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also accompanied Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand to meet with Mr. Adel Dauletbek, Vice President Marketing and Sales of Air Astana, the national airline of Kazakhstan.  Both sides discussed topics on tourism and the possibility of the airline increasing the number of direct flights between Thailand and Kazakhstan. Furthermore, the Minister of Tourism and Sports and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand co-hosted the "Amazing Thailand: A Glimpse of the Land of Smiles" event at the Intercontinental Hotel in Almaty to showcase and boost Thai tourism in Kazakhstan. Over 100 guests, including government officials, representatives from the private sector and media from Almaty, attended the event.
