On 16 February 2023, Mr. Wang Wei, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province, led a delegation from Yunnan Province to pay a courtesy call on Mr. Chatchai Viriyavejakul, Director-General of the Department of East Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Miss Bhavivarn Noraphallop, the new Consul-General of Thailand to Kunming, also joined the meeting.

Both sides exchanged views on ways to promote relations between Yunnan and Thailand in the post COVID-19 pandemic in such areas as railway cooperation and facilitation of exports of goods and fruits from Thailand to China as well as the convening of the 7th Thailand (Northern Region) - Yunnan Cooperation Working Group meeting to be hosted by the Yunnan side this year.
