On 17-21 March 2025, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanke, Deputy Director-General, Department of the European Affairs, accompanied Mr. Werapong Prapha, Thailand Trade Representative, on his meetings with the high-level representatives of the European Commission and European private sectors.

During this visit, the Thai delegation met and discussed with the EU counterparts from 12 agencies with the aim of deepening and fostering partnership between Thailand and the EU in all areas of cooperation, including exchanging best practices and standards  under the context of the Thailand-EU Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) which has been provisionally applied since 20 October 2024, helping to elevate the partnership among Thailand, the EU and its 27 Member States.

On this occasion, the Deputy Director-General accompanied the Thailand Trade Representative to meet and discuss with EU policymakers on the following areas of mutual interest: (1) Trade, investment and sustainability, particularly measures under the European Green Deal such as Deforestation-free Products Regulation (EUDR) and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM); (2)  Thailand – EU FTA negotiations; (3) combating IUU fishing and promotion of sustainable fisheries; and (4) geopolitics and geo-economics.

The Deputy Director-General also discussed issues of Thailand's interests such as Thailand’s request on visa-free access to Schengen area for Thai ordinary passport holders, exchange of high-level visits, and ways and means to concretise the implementation of the PCA with the EU side.
