On 6 February 2025, Mrs. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, welcomed and exchanged views on opportunities to expand media collaboration with Mr. Savankhone Razmountry, President of the Lao Journalists’ Association, and his delegation during their visit to Thailand, as well as the President of the Thai Journalists Association who was also in attendance.

Both sides agreed on the importance of engaging the media on accurate, timely and verified information, including significant government policies and the missions of various public agencies, with the broader public. They also exchanged views on the challenges of strategic communication in the digital age, combating fake news, as well as opportunities to collaborate between Thai and Lao media on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand - Lao PDR diplomatic relations this year.

In addition, the Deputy Director-General introduced the Department’s approach to strategic communication and issues that Thailand is ready to share best practices with the Lao side, including Thailand’s role as host of BIMSTEC and ACD, support for activities organised between the Thai and Lao media, as well as building partnership and expanding regional networking opportunities. She provided a case in point of the possibility for the two sides to match famous influencers from each country to work together and collaborate for the mutual benefit of both sides, which could be useful in reaching a wider audience, particularly in the new generation.
