On 4 February 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed and had a discussion with H.E. Mr. Otaka Masato, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand, who paid a courtesy call on the occasion of his assumption of duty.

Both sides discussed ways to promote and further strengthen cordial bilateral relations across various areas of cooperation. In the economic dimension, they discussed ways to move forward the launching of the Energy and Industry Dialogue (EID) that would play a crucial role in advancing the growth of the automotive industry, as well as transforming Thailand’s industrial sector towards a smooth green transition. In the political-security dimension, both sides explored the possibility of exchanging high-level visits between the two countries in the near future.

In addition, they also exchanged views on regional and international issues, particularly the situation in Myanmar and transboundary crimes, in which the Foreign Minister reaffirmed the importance of dialogue and underscored Japan’s important role in helping to address these challenges.
