H.E. Mr. Han Zhiqiang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the Ambassador’s assumption of duty. Both sides welcomed the close Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Thailand and China and the mutual assistance extended to each other to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 situation on
25 November 2021.

Both sides agreed on the importance of promoting regular exchanges of high-level visits and meetings to maintain momentum and steer forward Thailand - China relations. The two sides welcomed the increase in bilateral trade despite the COVID-19 pandemic and supported the early convening of meetings of various bilateral economic mechanisms to support in the post-COVID-19 economic recovery. Both sides also concurred on the importance of facilitating cross-border trade, particularly in the transport of agricultural products from Thailand to China and the resumption of travel between both countries. In this regard, the Thai side appreciated the Chinese side’s positive consideration of the request in authorizing
Thai students to return to China to continue their studies during the COVID-19 situation.

On this occasion, both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. They welcomed the close cooperation between Thailand and China under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC), ASEAN and international frameworks. Both sides were also pleased with the fruitful outcome of the ASEAN-China Special Summit to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations on 22 November 2021 via videoconference, in which ASEAN-China relations was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In addition, the Chinese side reaffirmed support for Thailand’s hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2022.
