On 22 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Mr. Kairat Sarybay, Secretary-General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), at the Ministry during his visit to Thailand to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) during 21 - 25 April 2025 in Bangkok.
Both sides exchanged views on developments and workplan of CICA under the Republic of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship 2024 - 2026, including developments in CICA’s transformation into an international organization. They also discussed the importance of advancing cooperation between CICA and other similar international cooperation frameworks such as ESCAP, ASEAN, Bay of Bengal Initiative on Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), and Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), in various aspects, namely, economic, cultural and people-to-people contacts. The Secretary-General also expressed his keen interest in cooperation with the ACD under Thailand’s chairmanship 2024 - 2025.
CICA is a multi-national forum established in 1992 by the initiative of Kazakhstan to promote peace, security and stability in Asia. It focuses on building collaboration in five areas, namely, military-political, economic, environmental, new challenges and threats, and the human dimension. Thailand joined CICA as an official member in 2004 and is currently the coordinator for sustainable development and one of the co-coordinators for the development of small and medium enterprises (SME), along with the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Turkiye.
