On 14 May 2024, Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General of Department of South Asian, Middle East, and African Affairs, welcomed the delegation from the Ministry of Marine Resources of the State of Eritrea upon the completion of their Study Programme on Fishery Operations in Thailand organised by the Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University, from 30 April to 15 May 2024. Also present were officers of the Department of South Asian, Middle East, and African Affairs and representatives from Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA).

The Eritrean delegation expressed their appreciation to the Royal Thai Government and Kasetsart University for kindly coordinating and
organising this study visit to Thailand. During the programme, the delegation had acquired the know-how on small-scale and middle-scale fisheries, as well as the knowledge on aquaculture and fishery-related industries. The delegation also learned of Thailand’s potentials, especially in economic sectors. In this connection, the Thai side reiterated its readiness to support the State of Eritrea’s economic development and food security through development cooperation, in which Thailand has expertise. The visit is considered to be the beginning of the much more substantial cooperation between Thailand and Eritrea on fishery.
