On 20 October 2026, Miss Jitvipa Benjasil, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. (CDA), Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra attended the 5th Strategic Dialogue between ASEAN Committee in Canberra and senior executives of the Group of Eight (Go8), co-chaired by H.E. Ms. Nooraslena Pg Sallehuddin, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Australia and Professor Deborah Terry AC, Chair of the Go8 and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Queensland, at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.

The meeting discussed ways to further promote collaboration in education and research, and to strengthen resilience and research security in strategic areas of mutual interests between ASEAN member states and Australia, including energy transition, food and energy security, climate change, development of AI and AI governance, and cybersecurity.

In addition, the meeting also exchanged views on the impact of Australia's immigration and international student policies on ASEAN students. The executives of the Go8 highlighted the significant contribution of ASEAN students to Australia's education, international relations and research ecosystem and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting ASEAN students.
