On 20 January 2025, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations met with Dr. Phiset Sa-ardyen, Director of Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) and delegation. Both sides discussed the way forward to promote the effective implementation of the Bangkok Rules (United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-Custodial Measures for Women Offenders) at regional and international levels through exchanges of best practices, lessons learned and recommendation for United Nations member states to implement the Bangkok Rules in conjunction with their domestic laws and national contexts on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the adoption of the Bangkok Rules by the United Nations General Assembly.
TIJ, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, will hold side events and regional meetings in Bangkok, New York, Vienna and Doha, with a view to realise the wider implementation of the Bangkok Rules as envisioned by HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati to create a more supportive environment to address specific needs of women in contact with criminal justice systems.
