On 12 June 2026, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, had discussions with H.E. Mrs. Katharina Wieser, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Kingdom of Thailand, on the occasion of her assumption of duty. The Ambassador expressed her condolences on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita. The Permanent Secretary expressed appreciation for the gesture and recalled Her Royal Highness’s dedicated service to the country, as well as her close ties with Austria during her tenure as Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Austria.

Both sides welcomed the 157 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Austria and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across all dimensions. They discussed ways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, education, science, technology, and human resource development, and exchanged views on international developments and multilateral cooperation. The Thai side congratulated Austria on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2027 - 2028 term and expressed readiness to work closely with Austria on issues of common interest. They also discussed Thailand - EU relations and efforts to strengthen ASEAN - EU connectivity and cooperation, agreeing to continue cooperating closely to advance the mutual benefits of the two countries.
