The Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs attended the “Youth Dialogue with ASEM Leaders” event to exchange views with 200 youth representatives from Asia and Europe on SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and youth’s participation.
On 14 May 2021, H.E. Mrs. Pornpimol Kanchanalak, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, was the keynote speaker at the “Youth Dialogue with ASEM Leaders” event. She exchanged views with some 200 youth representatives from Asia and Europe currently taking part in the 4th ASEF Young Leaders Summit. The theme of the event was SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
Mrs. Kanchanalak spoke of Thailand’s approach to achieving SDG 3, which is encapsulated in the “4 I’s” concept, namely: (1) Inclusivity, or the promotion of universal access to affordable and quality healthcare services;(2) Innovation, especially that related to healthcare; (3) International Cooperation, which should be further strengthened to fight against COVID-19 and prepare for future global health emergencies; and (4) Individual Implementation, or efforts made by the individual to attain both good physical and mental health.
Her discussion with the youth representatives was centred on 3 key issues, including (1) Good Health & Well-being in Thailand; (2) Health & the Economy; and (3) Multilateralism & Health. In this respect, she highlighted Thailand’s success stories, such as the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) policy, Thailand’s post-COVID-19 economic recovery plan, Thailand’s active role with regard to health cooperation in global multilateral for a and its step-by-step plan to reopen Thailand to foreign tourists.
The virtual dialogue is part of the ASEF Young Leaders Summit, which is being organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) in conjunction with the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting Summit (ASEM 13) to be hosted by Cambodia in November 2021.
