H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.), Prime Minister of Thailand, is scheduled to participate in the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit, which will be held on 12 - 13 May 2022 in Washington D.C., the United States of America.

This Special Summit will commemorate the 45th Anniversary of the ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue Relations, and provide the opportunity for the Leaders of ASEAN and the U.S. to discuss the future direction of ASEAN-U.S. relations in the areas such as COVID-19 response and recovery, health security, climate change, sustainable development, maritime cooperation, supply chain connectivity, green infrastructure, human capital development and human security. Leaders will also exchange views on pressing regional and international issues, while underlining the importance of ASEAN centrality and the need to promote a conducive environment for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

The ASEAN-U.S. relations began in 1977, and was elevated to a strategic level in 2015. Both sides have been working together to advance cooperation across all three pillars of the ASEAN Community, namely Political-Security, Economic, and Socio-Cultural Community Pillars. Such partnership has contributed to the advancement of the ASEAN Community and development in region.
