ASEAN-New Zealand Commemorative Summit to mark the 45th anniversary dialogue relations adopted Leaders' Vision Statement emphasising cooperation on peace, prosperity, people and planet. Prime Minister Prayut also introduced His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great's philosophy "Loss is Gain" in turning COVID-19 crisis into opportunities, and invited New Zealand further cooperation on ecotourism and sustainable development.

On 14 November 2020, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-Cha, Prime Minister, attended the ASEAN-New Zealand Summit to commemorate 45th anniversary of dialogue relations. Meeting was attended by ASEAN Leaders/representatives and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

The Meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation and strategic partnership between ASEAN and New Zealand, one of the oldest dialogue partners, in areas of mutual interest, including response to COVID-19, upgrading of the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand FTA (AANZFTA), the signing of the RCEP, and support for multilateral trading system in ensuring resilient and sustainable supply chains, in order to effectively facilitate trade and unimpeded flow of essential goods and services. The Meeting also discussed possible areas of cooperation that New Zealand has expertise such as biodiversity conservation, marine debris and education.

In Prime Minister’s intervention, cooperation on human security and public health in effectively responding to COVID-19 through the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund was highlighted. The significant economic contribution that will be achieved through the signing of the RCEP and the upgrading of the AANZFTA was emphasised. Prime Minister also introduced His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great's philosophy "Loss is Gain" in turning COVID-19 crisis into opportunities and invited New Zealand’s cooperation on ecotourism and sustainable development. In addition, Thai Prime Minister expressed support for New Zealand’s concept of “Kaitiakitanga”, which places importance on caring for and protecting peoples as well as environment for future generations.

The Government of New Zealand announced financial contribution of 1 million NZD towards the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund, 10 million NZD towards climate smart agriculture, 5 million NZD towards the Mekong River Commission, and 24 million NZD towards regional economic assistance.

The Meeting also adopted the Joint ASEAN-New Zealand Leaders’ Vision Statement emphasising cooperation in “4P” consisting of Peace, Prosperity, People, and Planet, as well as noted the Plan of Action to Implement the ASEAN-New Zealand Strategic Partnership (2021-2025).
