On 8 August 2021 at 09.00 hrs., H.E. Mr. Nathapol Khantahiran, Ambassador of Thailand to the State of Qatar, attended the 54th ASEAN Day Celebration at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Doha. The event was attended by the ASEAN Committee in Doha (ACD) comprising Ambassadors and diplomatic members from seven ASEAN embassies accredited in Doha, namely Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The celebration was marked with the hoisting of the ASEAN Flag accompanied by the ASEAN Anthem titled "The ASEAN Way" followed by a remarks and a reception. In his remarks as the host of the ASEAN Day commemoration as well as the Chairman of the ACD in 2021, H.E. Mr. Ridwan Hassan, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the State of Qatar, highlighted regional cooperation under the theme "We Care, We Prepare, We Prosper" which is the central theme of ASEAN under the Chairmanship of Brunei Darussalam in 2021, as well as ASEAN's regional efforts in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic and sustainable recovery measures. On ASEAN's relations with Qatar, the ACD welcomes the progress on the accession of Qatar to the ASEAN's Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) which had been reiterate by the 54th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting on 2 August 2021. This will pave the way to establish ASEAN's official partnership with Qatar and foster collaboration on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation. In addition, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia also expressed appreciation to the government of the State of Qatar for taking care of the well-being of more than 300,000 ASEAN nationals residing in Qatar, who also played an important role in contributing to the development of Qatar.
