On 3 March 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, met with H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, to express appreciation for the Qatari government’s support in facilitating negotiations and coordinating the release of five Thai nationals on 30 January 2025, as well as to seek continued assistance in securing the release of one remaining Thai national and retrieving of the bodies of two deceased nationals.

In commemoration of the 45th anniversary of Thailand-Qatar diplomatic relations in 2025, both sides discussed ways to promote cooperation in three main areas: food security, where Thailand is ready to exchange expertise in agricultural technology; energy security, especially the transition to clean energy; and human security in public health, education, and tourism. The Minister of Foreign Affairs invited Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar to pay an official visit to Thailand to co-chair Thailand-Qatar High Joint Commission meeting to push for concrete cooperation in these areas.
