At present, there are 164 State Parties to the Convention. Thailand was the first country in Southeast Asia to become a State Party to the Convention on 3 December 1997. Thailand’s obligations as a State Party to the Convention are to never under any circumstance use, develop, produce, acquire, stockpile, retain, or transfer anti-personnel mines, to clear and destroy all stockpiled mines, to provide assistance to mine victims, and to provide Mine Risk Education to affected population.
