On 27 November 2023, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, presided over the welcome reception of the 5th Asia – Pacific Directors General Forum for South – South and Triangular Cooperation at the Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was attended by Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), over 150 high-level representatives from more than 40 ESCAP members countries, diplomatic missions, and development partners agencies in Thailand. The welcome reception was held as part of the 5th Asia – Pacific Directors General (APDG) Forum for South – South and Triangular Cooperation hosted by TICA, in collaboration with ESCAP, during 27 - 28 November 2023 at the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC), Bangkok.

On this occasion, the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs delivered his opening remarks emphasizing the importance of South-South and Triangular Cooperation in driving the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the importance of digital technology and innovation as tools to promote sustainability, connectivity, and economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region, and the importance of promoting digital inclusion. This is in line with this year’s theme of the Asia-Pacific Director General Forum, “Digital Innovation and South-South Cooperation: Driving Sustainable Development on Asia and the Pacific”, which emphasizes international development cooperation, especially between countries in the Global South, the region which has seen high economic and development growth rates. The Global South also plays a significant role on the international stage in reducing development disparities and driving SDGs.

At the event, there were also classical music performances by the Immanuel Orchestra - Music for Life Foundation performed by young musicians from the Klong Toey Community, an exhibition showcasing development cooperation projects implemented by TICA, as well as the Loy Krathong Festival simulation and Thai food booths to showcase Thai traditions and culture.
