On 11 April 2022, H.E. Mr. Moon Seoung-hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, on the occasion of the Ambassador’s assumption of duty.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Thailand and the ROK in all dimensions. On the political domain, both sides were pleased with the Thailand-ROK Strategic Partnership cooperation, which marks its 10th anniversary this year and supported the finalization of the Joint Action Plan (2022-2027) by this year to steer the close Strategic Partnership into fruition. On the economic side, both sides viewed that there is still potential for Thailand and the ROK to develop economic relations, particularly in promoting trade and investment in Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG). The Thai side invited the ROK’s private sectors to invest in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). On the socio-cultural dimension, both sides were pleased that Koreans and Thais mutually appreciated each other’s culture, especially K-Pop and K-Drama, which are very popular in Thailand. The Thai side also expressed admiration to the ROK on the successful promotion of soft power and cultural diplomacy while the ROK side expressed readiness to enhance cooperation with Thailand in these areas.

On regional and international cooperation, the ROK’s side reaffirmed its support to Thailand’s host of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) this year and informed of the planned visit to Thailand by the new President of the ROK to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. Both side also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interests.
