On 15 December 2021, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs presided over a reception in commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of Thailand’s Membership in the United Nations at Vithes Samosorn Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighting Thailand's role as a responsible, reliable and constructive member and development partner of the United Nations throughout the past 75 years.

In his welcoming remarks, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stresses Thailand’s determination to continue its role as a responsible, reliable and constructive member and development partner of the United Nations in all three pillars, namely peace and security, human rights and development. In addition to taking pride in serving as the “Geneva of Asia”, Thailand also strives for balance between economic growth and the environment through the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy model to achieve sustainable development. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also urges all agencies to render support to the youth in the fight against borderless challenges, particularly climate change.

In his congratulatory message, Mr. António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, commends Thailand’s constructive role in multilateral diplomacy throughout the past 75 years and expresses appreciation to the country for being a good host to several United Nations offices, particularly the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). Similarly, in his congratulatory video message, Mr. Abdulla Shahid, the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly has expressed the same sentiment and emphasizes Thailand’s initiatives such as the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and the Universal Health Coverage (UHC), as well as the country’s strong and continuous support and contribution to world peace and successful elections to important positions in various UN bodies.


Aside from Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the UNESCAP and Ms. Gita Sabharwal, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand who delivered remarks at the Reception, also in attendance were the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, the most senior Ambassadors from the different regional groups to Thailand and representatives of youth groups such as Model United Nations (MUN), UNODC Youth Forum 2022, ECOSOC Youth Forum 2019, Speaking Hub Project and UNGA Youth Delegate 2019.

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also presented an award to Mr. Phatraphol Rueangsen, a representative of the winning team of the 75th Anniversary of Thailand in the UN Commemorative Logo Design Competition.
